PARAEDUCATOR(S)/SPECIAL EDUCATION - Mon-Fri - 7.0 hrs/day

Position open until filled.  

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Student Services Director

 

SUMMARY: A Paraeducator instructs students in an individual or group setting. He/She helps with assigned learning activities and provides assistance to students TK-12 under the direction of a certified teacher/program director.

    

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide instructional support to students ages 3-22 in accordance with teacher directions.
2. Record data on individual student progress in the curriculum and behavior program.
3. Assist student(s) with behavior management by consistently following the plan developed by the staff including but not limited to redirecting, teaching replacement behavior and providing reinforcement.
4. Work cooperatively with members of the team.
5. Develop a rapport with special needs or at-risk students.
6. Perform computer tasks that are needed for the program as directed by supervisors.
7. Be familiar with special education and district policies and procedures.
8. Promote student independence in the school setting.
9. Refer concerns for safety, health and discipline to the supervising teacher or principal.
10. Perform other tasks as reasonably requested by the teacher or administrators.
11. Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors. Ability to utilize de-escalation techniques.
12. Physically capable of lifting a student (must be able to lift 50 pounds). Heavier lifting will utilize a two person lift or assistive devices. Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending and working or sitting on the floor with students, based on student needs.
13. Ability to attend to personal care of students, such as; toileting, lifting, transferring, changing, feeding and providing other services, depending on the needs of the student(s).
14. Provide one-on-one instruction/supervision in self-contained classroom as needed.
15. Keep student/staff information confidential.
16. Ability to perform varied tasks in a busy atmosphere.  Works in a variety of settings based on need.  
17. Playground and lunchroom supervision.
18. Other duties may be assigned.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to classroom applications.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required
to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of college studies: 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits required or completion of Praxis Exam with a passing score.  

 

CLEARANCES & TRAINING:

Washington State Patrol/FBI Background Check

Provided Training: CPR/First Aid Certificate and Right Response

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Hourly Range: $19.27 - $25.14; placement based on experience
• Length of Contract: This is a continuing contract beginning the 2026-2027 school year.  Salary is based upon placement on the salary schedule and experience. 
• Benefits – Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are
  provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.
• Additional benefits may include sick leave, personal days, and holidays.
